The semi-annual Yard Sale fund raiser for Community Christian School will be Thursday September 23, 2010.

This is a perfect opportunity to do some Fall Cleaning at your home and put those old and unwanted items to good use.

There’s always a treasure trove of items and oddities all at yard sale prices. So come out and invite your friends and neighbors and help support our school.

Rekindling The Reformation

Most people are familiar with the great reformers Martin Luther and John Huss. But what about Nicholas Ridley and Thomas Cranmer? A small group meeting has started at the home of Franky and Rachel Collins, meeting every Friday night. They are going through the video series “Rekindling The Reformation” presented by Professor Walter Veith of Amazing Discoveries. He provides an indepth study of what exactly the Protestant Reformation was, what it stood for, and why it has seemingly died in today’s Christian world, and must be reignited in these end times. Please join this group and rediscover the truths that so many brave men and women died to uphold, and the organizations and movements attempting to extinguish them today.

Contemplative, Centering Prayer

In his Sabbath sermon, newly elected General Conference President Ted Wilson warned against being caught up in several emerging trends in the modern Christian world. Among those he listed was contemplative or centering prayer. To many, the term “contemplative prayer” may sound positive and seem like a constructive means for spiritual growth. Upon further examination, however, it is clear why President Wilson encouraged all Christians to avoid adopting this popular practice. Below are several links to examinations and explanations of what “contemplative” and “centering” prayer really is, and why it is becoming so prevelant in many Christian churches, including our own. I encourage every one to watch and read these expositions so that you will have the information needed to identify and avoid groups or individuals promoting this practice.

Ted Wilson Address to General Conference

As many of you know, at the recent General Conference meeting, a new president was elected, Pastor Ted Wilson. On the following sabbath, President Wilson addressed those assembled in the Georgia Dome with an hour long address outlining how he would like the church to develop under his leadership. He pronounced his desire to return to the fundamental pillars of our faith, such as creation, salvation through grace, the spirit of prophecy, uplifting Christ over self, among others. He also stressed a need to refuse and avoid several emerging movements in modern Christianity, such as centering and contemplative prayer, emotional excess in worship services, historical-critical methods of Bible interpretation to list a few. Below are links where you can watch or read his sermon, and I hope that it will inspire you to continue the work that we were commissioned to complete by our Lord and Saviour.

Health Ministry Workshops

The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is to proclaim to all people the everlasting gospel in the context of the Three Angel’s message of 6 Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. 7 And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

8 Another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.”

9 And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”

12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

The commission of Jesus Christ compels us to lead others to accept Jesus as their personal savior and to unite with His church, and nurture them in preparation for His soon return; wholeness and health have been an emphasis of the Seventh-day Adventist church since the 1860s. This emphasis is based on Biblical teaching and instruction. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and we have been entrusted with the privilege of maintaining and improving our spiritual, mental, social and physical health. Health Ministries promotes good health and the prevention of ill health to help achieve this goal of wholeness.

Essentially, a Wholistic Health Ministry Program helps the Community Seventh-day Adventist Church fulfill its mission to proclaim to all people the everlasting gospel and promote good health and the prevention of ill health to help the goal of maintaining and improving an individual’s spiritual, mental, social and physical health. The proposed Wholistic Health Ministry Program contributes to the mission of the Church in two ways:

The Community Seventh-day Adventist Church’s mission as a Christian Church
The Community Seventh-day Adventist Church’s responsibility to serve the population in its immediate service area.

Funding for the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Health Ministry Program provided by the Community Seventh-day Adventist Church of Meridian, MS is provided by Adventist Health Systems Following After Christ’s Examples in Service (FACES), Winter Park, Florida. FACES grants are provided to conference areas where there is no active Adventist medical facility to support and strengthen Health Ministry Programs of local churches.

2010 professional workshops provided in Meridian are offered in partnership with the following: Mississippi State University Social Work Program, Counselor Education, and Psychology, East Mississippi State Hospital, Meridian Public Schools, and East Central Community College Nursing.

These seven professional workshops have been approved by the Mississippi Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers for 4.33 CE Credits for licensed social workers.
